Hi there,

I've just bought the OQ rules, and I am very pleased with them. My group are planning to start running a campaign in january when the current Savage Worlds one I'm running finishes. Having read them I like them alot and remind me alot of the simplicity of RQ2, as opposed to later versions of RQ that I have played/run.

But I have just a couple of questions, I hope this is the right place for them...

Firstly, improvement points, is the intention that these are handed out per session (or 'evening'), or does 'session' mean per adventure (or suitable point during) like previous versions of RQ ? My group plays weekly, and only for 3 hours a time generally, and i can see character progression becoming rather alarming, very quickly (I'm sure they won't...), I am happy to judge myself, but I know at least two of my players will start quibbling at the first opportunity... but thats the guys.

Secondly, characteristic raises seem ALOT easier with this system (I can see alot of Str 21 fighters out there), so when a characteristic is raised, do the base skill levels raise, even if a character has a skill level in them...? (If they just have the base in it, I guess thats fine) It just seems that its going to result in awful lot of rubbing out everytime a characteristic is raised, for the sake of just a +1% to a skill... But I'm guessing yes they do...

Aside from that, I can't say thank you enough, I am really looking forward to finally getting back to running OQ/RQ again. Its been ages, and after the problems my players had with the Mongooses RQ rules, they are tempted by OQ to.

Many thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew

The experience rules as written are quite generous since I wanted to have characters developing quite quickly and in the direction players wanted. We tend to play short campaigns lasting 3-6 months.

However I am in the process of putting together some alternative rules, which I'll post on the OQ Companion, that work better for a more slower pace of game.

Answers to your questions

1. Session should usually refer to the complete adventure.

2. Skill raises as Char goes up. Yes it does lead to lots of rubbing out if your players are constantly upping their scores.

Glad you like the game Smiley

Hi,

Just a quick question, are these spells +1d10 or just do 1d10 fire damage, both version are in the rules. I prefer the former or going back to 3D6, they are expensive spells, and at the moment don't do much, frex cast it on a greatsword and its pants. +1d10 makes it more varied, so a dagger does 1D4+1D10 and a Broadsword would do 1D8+1d10, much more interesting.

Through a vicous headcold and an achey stomach bug (aka Newt's annual pre-xmas melt down) I have pondered this.

I like the +1D10 option best, because I always found it odd that fireblade/firearrow did 3d6 irrespective of weapon in previous editions of RQ and as you say it brings about more variety.

Just added this to the upcoming errata Smiley
