 Smiley
Many thanks for replying.
Really looking forward to its release, can't wait.

Really fancy it as a setting, allowing me to start my players off with a handful of scenarios, and then build a campaign from there. Fitting it to their characters as we go.

Anyway, bye.

Hi,

Is there any news on the progress of the Savage North pack ?
If no news can you say what the scale for the map of the savage north is ? Say how far is it from Newcastle to Wulftown ?

Savage North gets  a mention in my big feb D101 round up on the dev blog

http://blog.d101games.co.uk/2010/02/20/the-blinding-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel/

Once I've finalised the book, I'll be running a preorder where you can get the printed book when it comes out + pdf immeadiately.

Scale wise you'll be needing the updated preview map (which also has lots more detail)

My copy of The Savage North arrived from Lulu today.  It looks great!  Grin

Alas, I noticed one problem immediately.  Pages 6-15 are numbered 186-195, pages 22-73 are numbered 202-252, and pages 95-122  are numbered 275-304.   Undecided

Not a big deal, obviously, but I thought that I should mention it.

I'm looking forward to reading (and, hopefully, eventually playing) this!  Cool

Hi

Yup I noticed this from one of the preorderers who told me. I stopped sales and corrected the problem on the first day. Unfortunately you had already bought your copy by them Sad

Since lulu does not give me addresses of people who buy my stuff the identity of the one person who had bought a print copy (you) was a mystery, until now Smiley

BUT if you PM your address to me, I will send you a corrected replacement copy free of charge, like I have for all the people who preordered Smiley

This offer also extends to the four people who bought pdfs with incorrect page numbering, email me your Lulu receipt of purchase and I will send you a new corrected pdf free of charge.

Hi there,

Just a couple of questions I have about the Savage North setting. And some errata.

For my players I want to detail Newcastle and the Enclave for them and also map it a little.

If the population of Newcastle is a 1000 citizens (as of 3 years ago in the Imperial Census). Is that a 1000 of total, or is that 1000 Imperial Citizens + hoeever many locals and transients ? If so how many of the latter ? Could I assume another 1-2000, or is Newcastle really just a frontier settlement ? Just asking for clarity.

Secondly, If the Knights of the North number about 3000-ish (503 officers and senior ranks + 2500 soldiers + however many camp followers), I assume the majority are based in Newcastle, and/or guarding the borders of the Enclave, with the rest out in the north busy converting the ungrateful savages of the north. Is that a correct assumption ? Its just that if the population of Newcastle is 1000, that seems a very heavy military presence... for such a small population, but maybe not considering Newcastles location on a hostile frontier. I merely ask as this will have an effect on the character of the settlement when running it as a location.

I have guessed the Knights of the North do not count towards the population of 1000.

Or if they do, over half the population are the upper ranks of the Knights, and the core of the Order, with the rest of the army comprising of hired local mercenary units of 'loyal' Drakkar/Nortlanders etc. So that in effect Newcastle is a military garrison, with the rest of its population involved supporting the garrison by work and trade mostly ?

Its not important, the answers, but before I just decide I thought I'd ask in case there was an official answer.

Also, I found some possible errata in the PDF version.

p.6, 2nd col, (100 BU) reads 'Nortland and....' ? I guess 'Sonderland' is the missing text.
p.6, 2nd col, (15AU and 20AU) should the years ago be the other way round so rather than 35 years ago and then 40 years ago, it should be 40 then 35 ?
p.7, 1st col, (23AU) reads '25 years ago', should that be '27 years ago' ?
p.14, (Alcohol panel) 'Ice Beer', 2nd line 'Rename', should this have been altered/renamed or is it correct ?
p.20, reference to 'Way-ai' and 'Kan-ai', are these supposed to match the two river names, or are they meant to be different from the river names 'Can-ai' and 'Way-ai' (panel p.14)?
p.29, 1st col, 2nd para '...frozen river Can-ai north to the village of Little Wai', same column, 6th para, '...frozen river Wai-ai towards...', is this correct, I had assumed these two rivers were the two rivers that flowed to Newcastle from the North and East.
(General) Which river is which ?

p.41, 2nd col, 1st para, 5th line, '...319 bp...' ? Is bp 'sp' ?
p.42, 2nd col, last para, '...Str against 50.' Is this an opposed roll of totalled Strength vs 50%, or a Athletics (Brawn) roll at -50 ?
p.50, 1st col, 'hit location' mentioned
p.51, 'Crevasse' refers to '1d6 damage to 5 hit locations', should this be 5d6 damage, or 5x 1d6's of damage, if armour counts ?
p.58, 2nd col, 1st para, 'and 14bp', bp is 'sp' ?
p.59, 1st col, 3nd para, '17bp' ?
p.59, last para, 'him.. His' there are two full stops.
p.70, 3rd para, '...to 3 random hit locations,' 3d3 damage total as armour does not count ?
p.94, 1st col, last para, '....page xx' Ref is 'p.27' ?
p.111, zombie priest, a space before a comma, for 'spells', '...ghoul) ,Sense...'
p.113, under 'treasure' chest #2 '819bp' 'sp' ?

Now don't get me wrong I really like the Savage North book, its exactly what I wanted, and obviously I liked it so much that I have read it fairly closely. I was not trying to find fault, its just that part of my job is proofing other peoples work (yes how exciting that is ! yay), so I made notes as I read it. Dam sight more interesting to read than the typical document I have to check.

I hope the above helps. Hopefully starting my Savage North campaign next monday.

As a last question, is the first scenario suitable for starting characters... I just imagined reading it, there may be a possible quite high body count ?!

Yours truly,
Andrew

As an aside.

I was going to use the RQIII definitions of 'Small Towns' for the rest of the north, is this appropriate for them ?

Got The Savage North today, and am enjoying it -- great atmosphere, and having an Imperial outpost in the middle of it adds a nice focus for conflict.

I'm a little puzzled about the size of Newcastle, like Andrew above. Only 1000 citizens, but 50 pubs? Must be a lot of revellers being bussed in on a Friday night :-)

Also, I'm a bit hazy about where the Savage North is in relation to Gatan. (Or is that deliberate?) To the North, obviously, but I'm slightly confused about the orientation of the Gatan map in OQ, since the sun rises behind the Isles of Dawn, which appear to be to the south of everyone who might be watching, rather than the east...

Enquiring minds want to know!  Grin

Actually I have - and I take your point... still.

1000 people, assuming half of them in total are women and children (not that I'm suggesting that women don't drink !), but 50 pubs.. 500 or so drinkers thats say 10 a venue...

I have assumed there is a garrison of the army in the city, but I've gone with much of the rest of the army spread out across the enclave, as small isolated forts fit what I want in my campaign, so that still makes a lot of pubs...

Unless a 'pub' is merely a 'stall' in a communal drinking hall, in which case you could have a lot packed in one place together I guess selling one or two of their own imported wines/beers/ciders/lagers/etc...

Hmm... maybe there should be a beer guide for the savage north !
