As I was finishing off the game prior to the final edit, it occurred to me that a name change was in order.

So 'SimpleQuest' is now 'OpenQuest'

Two reasons for the change

1. Some people are already are already referring to it as 'OpenQuest' and since I'm going to make the whole game OGL this seemed to make sense. to reinforce that as long as you include the OGL license you can use it how ever you want, even commercially.

2. Also we've found while we we've been out and about at conventions that people new to BRP/D100 are misled by the name 'SimpleQuest'. They are expecting a fast moving very simple fantasy game, when in reality the game is a easier to understand and play version of RQ/BRP.

I've updated the game's page on the website with full details of the contents and some sample artwork

Final run down of the content and an example piece of art from Simon Bray.

This looks fantastic.
I'm sorry to hear that your "vigour" for the game has dwindled (as per your livejournal post on March 12th), but hopefully others can pick up where you left off - thanks to you making it OGL.

Also based on that livejournal post, I've been excited about the retro-gaming movement that has gotten underway.  I've seen several clones for old school D&D, and it is very nice to see SQ (OpenQuest) stepping into that movement.

Any idea when this wonderful game will be available?

Opps here's the link to the LJ Post http://d101games.livejournal.com/15248.html

I think my vigour has gone since I've been working on it for the good part of two years and in that time my interest has moved onto other games. I reckon I'll be popping back in to write the odd scenario or two after a rest though Smiley

The Retro Gaming movement is a good fit for OpenQuest, its full of old grognards (and I mean that in a posistive way) who believe that this sort of gaming should be preserved, be made available for free or at low cost and there's a real posistive DIY spirit to it. All values that are at the heart of D101games. I'm really hopeful that OpenQuest gets embraced by other people, who enjoy the game and take it forward.

As for a release date, its getting very close. Graham starts editing after the weekend and I'll start on layout simultanously. So I reckon first couple of weeks of April Cheesy

New development, I will be supporting OpenQuest with a follow up book of adventures called 'Dangerous Dungeons'. These adventures will be in the grand old tradition of Stormbringer & RuneQuest scenarios from the late 70s to mid 80s. More details when I've heard back from various collaborators.
