Hi there,

I would be interested in anyones first impressions of the new RQ2 rules from Mongoose. I've just got them, and I do like the changes that have been made. But for myself and my players I'm gonna still start with OpenQuest, and the Savage North setting when it comes out, as I prefer the simplicity of it for a monday night game, and still am not sure about multiple combat actions in a melee round...

But as I said I'd be interested in anyone thoughts on MRQ2.

Tommorrow was going to be MRQ2 day. I was going to go to Manchester Travelling Man and pick up a copy during my work lunchhour, taking a break from final Savage North editing Wink

BUT NO I HAD TO HAVE THE DAY OFF....10 miles away in sunny Oldham.

MRQ 2 fail Sad

Looking forward to picking up a copy on Thursday, as I have done with every version of RQ, but a tad wary of buying into the endless MRQ2 line of supplements.

Will probably run it at a con for fellow RQ heads at some point, but otherwise I'll be sticking with OpenQuest (and the rather exciting Powered by OQ games currently in production that should be out later this year Smiley ) for my D100 fantasy fix Smiley

I've not quite lost count of all my copies of RQ I've bought since my first set in '81.

On the plus side, having read somemore of the MRQ II book now, and having read comments on the mongoose blog, I'm fairly sure that all I will/need to get is the core rulebook, most of the rest I can make up from all the other RQ stuff I have.

As for the second age setting for Glorantha, I'll want to see before I buy. But the Heroquest book for Pavis does appeal later in the year, maybe also use for OpenQuest. Used to love Pavis and Prax as a setting, running it like an almost wild west setting. The Sartar setting I have alays struggled a bit more with, feeling the depth of setting detail killed of my creativity to some extent. Whereas Pavis/Prax has always felt more free-wheeling as a place to write for.

Hence interest in the Savage North as a setting on my part.

But I have to say, as a graphic designer, I do like the look of the MRQ II book an awful lot. Mind you still redesigned the character sheet pronto. Weapons on the back ! What !

I just picked up MRQ II today, and my first impressions are the same as Andrew's: the changes are good, but a bit too much complexity for my liking.  A prime example of this is the Weapon Reach - Closing and Disengaging rules (pg. 92).  While these rules are optional, and they work fine, they do add yet another layer of complexity.

I think I'll have to give the whole book an "OpenQuest" treatment.

By the way...

Just read on Mongoose's website a bit of errata.
Seems strike Rank does NOT include SIZ, so I assume that SR = an average of INT + DEX.
This is a chance that was made before print, but was not actually made, although the creatures stats are correct in the book.

Just thought I'd mention it.

I'm liking it so far, it is the new shiny as far as D100 games are concerned. Very clearly written. Its obvious that allot of thought has gone into answering the questions thrown up by the 1st edition, at times its almost like the text anticipates my questions.

If OpenQuest didn't exist this would be my D100 system of choice Smiley Its definitely OQ's cruncher older brother.

I think the only nitpicks I have with it is there's a couple of female sorceress images which border on soft-porn.
